The Sulphur Creek Nature Center is maintained by the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD) and serves as a wildlife rehabilitation and education facility located along the eastern edge of Hayward. This wildlife refuge is home to many native animals who have been sick, injured, or orphaned and serves as an oasis for its animal residents. The Nature Center welcomes 40,000 visitors each year, from school-aged children to seniors. Community members engage with the Nature Center throughout the year through a variety of educational programs, camp opportunities, and community events.

The HARD Foundation is in the process of redesigning and reimagining the site of one of our community’s most beloved facilities, the Sulphur Creek Nature Center. The HARD Foundation seeks donations for a significant renovation of this beloved Nature Center, which will include the construction of an outdoor classroom, amphitheater, entry kiosk, and welcome area – and the addition of interpretive and wayfinding signage.
